Meeting the Mentor

Charlee exploded through the door! Racing after the beacon and feeling the cold air on their face. Once close enough to touch it Charlee saw it again. A sticker on a telephone pole, they grinned and raced towards it. Next they saw a rose on a bush and pushed on. The cold air filled their lungs with an exuberance that went missing a long time ago. Few looked up from their papers or coffees as Charlee raced by. After running far past the rose, they stopped. The cold air made their chest tight. They stuttered a few more steps forward and ran their fingers through their hair. Making a slow circle they stopped frozen when they saw it. A red door.
